Tune-Up & Warm-Up
Before Every Practice Session
Good Practice Habits: Your personal practice sessions are super important. Remember, you're training your fingers -- your ears -- and your brain. So, let's prepare properly by making sure your guitar is in tune - and your fingers are warmed-up and ready to practice!
If you can play faster than the video, try using a metronome set for:
(BPM - beats per minute)
BPM = 60
BPM = 70
BPM = 80
.... as fast as you can play accurately.
Transition Drill
Almost everyone learning to play guitar experiences difficulty TRANSITIONING from one chord to another. It's as if your fingers turn into a tangled mess trying to grab the new chord. This is because your fingers have not yet developed the "muscle memory" to automatically form the SHAPE of the new chord.
Here's a very simple drill to help your fingers learn and remember the SHAPES:
Play-Along Practice
Chord Changes
G, D, E-, C
O.K. our four chords. Start by playing each chord with four (4) strums. The more reps, the better.
5-Minutes
G, D, E-, C
2 Strums - ADVANCED
This is the exact same chord progression EXCEPT, we are only playing EACH CHORD for TWO (2) STRUMS.
1:30-Minutes
"Let it Be"
Here's the Beatles studio recording of "Let It Be." Their original recording was in a different KEY. But, the CHORD PROGRESSION is EXACTLY the same as what we are learning in the KEY of G.
"Let it Be"
This is our version of the CHORDS in the KEY of G
Let It Be
Verse & Chorus
Now... let's put it all together. This will feel extremely difficult to play at first. But, please TRUST the system. If you practice just 30 minutes a day, you be able to play this song like a pro in just a matter of weeks!
Note: As you practice your chord changes through this song, it's important to note that it's two times (2X) through the VERSE CHORDS and only one time (1X) through the CHORUS CHORDS. Just play along with the video and you'll have it.
